#23. An End or Beginning?

The journey I have been on…..like Alice and her Adventures into Wonderland, web2.0 has so many interesting facets. Recently while searching www.news.co..au a box appeared on screen “share this article” and the choice included RSS del.icio.us Newsvine facebook and Digg. In the not too distance past I would ignored these links, not knowing or caring what they had to offer, but thanks to this Learning 2.0 program I now understand and use some of these choices.

Many thanks to the State Library of Victoria and to our guiding lights Lynette and Lesley.

Final words from my Bloglines account, quotes of the day, this one by Robert Frost:
“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life (or 2.0): it goes on”..

# 22 Audiobooks (yes! the end is in sight.)

Audio books –once considered the domain of the sight-impaired appear to be undergoing something of a renaissance. Today 80% of audiobook listeners are listening in the car, or while ironing, exercising or other chores. The ‘time poor’ public is keeping up with the latest releases with full-length recordings of popular titles.
But wait there is more - download from a web site, 24 hours a day...
World E-book Fair site invites you to explore those classics titles you always thought about reading. From a library point of view down loadable audiobooks provide an alternative if no print copy is available. Any student studying a classics work might find this very tempting.

#.21 Podcasts

I wondered what I might find out there...on the web in the form of podcasts, other than music, music, music..
Well, Harry Potter is really BIG. Pottercast is delivered is episodes, currently there are 124.
http://pottercast.the-leaky-cauldron.org/
Then you can listen to Mugglecast
http://www.mugglenet.com/mugglecast/
I discovered these after searching Podcast Alley.

Downloaded podcast software 'juice', but not sure if I needed to do this???

# 20. YouTube

YouTube is another favourite site. As a line dancer I am able to find teaching video clips for new dances. It is one thing to have a printed dance step sheet but a much perfered choice is to see a dance demonstrated.

The 'Cowboy and a Dancer' video inside this blog,is a great way to learn some new steps.

Several times during this learning 2.0 we have had YouTube tutoring videos to watch. Some people are visual learners so creating short videos to demonstrate a task, like a catalogue search makes good sense.

# 19. Web 2.0 Award List

Had a look around several sites selecting ones that I had not previously heard about.
First up was Peertrainer - a site designed to help you loose weight and get fit. I did not think this site would inspire anyone who was not already using a program. This site had plenty links for weight loss ads.
Next I moved to music - Pandora this site had an apology stating that due to licensing constraints listeners located outside the US were blocked from using the site.
And last but not least I selected books. Clicked onto Lulu checked out the first time visitor information, book search, and connect sections.
All in all I found each of my selections to be a disappointment, throughout this program we have been pointed to some excellent web 2.0 sites, but my selections left me wanting...

# 18. Web Based Applications

Wow, here we go again I never realised web based applications like Zoho Writer existed. Nothing to download, access from any internet terminal just log on and create.
I am impressed with Zoho Writer and Zoho Sheet, plenty of features including the ability to export to Microsoft applications. So much for having to carry a memory stick about with that 'work in progress' document, web based applications - all too easy..
