# 15. Web 2.0, Library 2.0

Web 2.0
The web is no longer simply about information; it is now about interaction. There are new and exciting technologies associated with Web 2.0 that enable users to interact with companies and other consumers, participate in, rate, influence discussions plus personalise their experience. Web 2.0 technologies enable consumers to contribute content to websites. The end user is not just a recipient of information but a participant in areas such as user reviews, blogs, wikis, tagging and podcasting. An individual can reach a much larger number of people, creating new communities and making new friends.
Library 2.0
The library's web site can now be developed using Web 2.0 technologies to reach further into our communities. Library customers could be encouraged to create book reviews, participate in on line discussion groups, or develop pathfinders on any subject. Tutorials could be launched using YouTube. I am not sure where information literacy fits into this picture, but libraries web development teams need to keep this in mind.
I cannot ever imagine a library without a physical collection, our current core services will remain well into the future, but by embracing and using 2.0 technologies we can only move forward and remain relevant.
